Christian Salvesen Reorganises for Growth

published: cw 43, 2005 in Logistics & Shipping

Stewart Oades, UK based Christian Salvesen?s recently appointed Chief Executive, has announced a management re-structure as the company gears up for a sustained period of growth across its logistics markets.

The internal re-organisation will see the introduction of autonomous business units which will take full responsibility for delivering their own results. The decentralised structure, designed to support the company?s core strategic activities of Transportation and Food and Consumer Logistics, will take immediate effect. All business unit directors will report directly to Oades, other than CS Foods, the vegetable processing and sales business, headed by Colin Miles which will continue to report to Julian Steadman, Group Finance Director.

The Transport sector comprises operations in France, Iberia and the UK. Darfeuille in France continues to be led by Didier Darfeuille and Steve MacDonald continues to lead Gerposa the Iberian network business. Salvesen have recruited Stephen Hayward who has extensive leadership experience in the UK parcel and pallet networks to become Managing Director of the UK Transport business. Didier Darfeuille will facilitate strategic development for the sector.

The Food and Consumer sector is made up of three business units; Brian Gaunt leads the UK business, Danny Van Himste continues to be responsible for European operations, and Roy Attenborough continues to lead the Support Services activities. Brian Gaunt will facilitate strategic leadership of the Food and Consumer sector.

Commenting on the new structure, Oades said: ?Having completed my induction and familiarisation with the business I have been impressed with the dedication, energy and commitment of colleagues. We are operating in a competitive environment but with a clear and focused strategy and strengthened management capability, we have a business with a strong future. I will be outlining our strategy to colleagues, customers and investors in the near future.?
