APL shipping and logistics suffer in market downturn

Global cargo transportation and logistics company Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) has reported net profit of US$187 million for the first half of 2006, down 52% from the same period of 2005. First half 2006 total Group revenues rose slightly year-on-year to US$3.52 billion, while the Group?s EBIT of US$227 million was down 47% from the corresponding period of 2005.

Container throughput at China ports up 22.4% in first half of 2006

China?s major sea and river ports saw container throughput volumes during the first half of 2006 increase by 22.4 percent to just over 42 million TEU , and cargo tonnage by 18.4 percent to 2.2 billion tons, reports Chinese news agency, Xinhua.

DFDS acquires Norfolk Line Containers

DFDS A/S agreed with Dutch Norfolk Holdings B.V. to acquire 100% of one of its subsidiaries, Norfolk Line Containers B.V., operating container shipping activities between the Continent and Ireland. Norfolk Holdings B.V. is a member of the A.P. Moller ? Maersk Group. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase sum.
