Glossary of Terms in Logistics and Shipping Available
published: cw 48, 2006 in EDITORS VIEWSThe world of Logistics and Shipping has become increasingly global. This means that flows has to be coordinated from and to different continents. Common language in the area of Logistics and Shipping is still the English language, which is full of three-of-more character acronyms, terms and jargon.
In the past I took an example of an article of my news site eLogistics Trendwatch, and noticed that a common English dictionary did not help me to fully understand the meaning of the text. This is all due to the jargon used in our profession. To improve the readability of the news site, I started to collect acronyms, terms and definitions, to finally develop a database, and make it accessible via the Internet. During the trials of the web-based databank, it was regarded as added value when the glossary was made available in a printed format too.
The first tangible result of the process of collecting of acronyms, terms and definitions is now available in book format. The are several entries to use the book. First you can search correct term of an acronym, secondly you can find the correct definition of a given term. For a quick reference, all the terms used in this book are listed as well. Especially for those who are working or studying in the field of Logistics and Shipping, this printed version will be an often used book.
So take the oportunity to explore and explane everything you always wanted to know about shipping and logistics - but possibly were afraid to ask - and buy the book online. For your convenience, we created a paperback (student) and a hardcover (executive) version. It is also possible to download the glossary in a pdf-format.
