Logistic consolidation 2006: eat or to be eaten
published: cw 01, 2006 in EDITORS VIEWSIn the memorable year 2005 P&O Nedlloyd was successfully hunted by Maersk. Exel was eaten by Deutsche Post. Kuehne + Nagel acquired ACR logistics and Deutsch Bahn bought Bax Global, and as a 2005 desert, Frans Maas will become Danish. The consolidation of logistics will continue in 2006.
The next question will be who will hunt and who will be hunted in logistics in 2006?
The hunting companies will be:
1. UPS and Fedex
2. Maersk and APL
3. Deutsche Post, La Poste and Royal Mail
Companies who intend to hunt but can be hunted by themselves:
1. TNT, selling logistics in strategic defense or ready to be eaten by a FedEx or UPS to obtain access in the European postal market.
2. Kuehne + Nagel, likely to expensive to be eaten but willing to eat.
3. Panalpina, want autonomic growth, but already mentioned as an expensive target for the willing UPS.
Companies who will be eaten in 2006
1. Christian Salvesen, in for sale for every bidder. Starts ?affair? with APL.
2. ABX Logistics, management buy out in 2005, value according to seller NMBS is ?zero?.
3. Transport Development Group (TDG) had unsuccessful affair with Salvesen. Will it be muddling through, or sell the place?
We will meet next year and discuss this prediction.
