Manhattan Associates tops list of Warehouse Management Systems providers

published: cw 24, 2006 in Supply Chain Software

Supply chain technology provider, Manhattan Associates, Inc. has topped the list in a recent Forrester Research report evaluating warehouse management systems. The report, assessing the warehouse management systems products available to retail supply chains, found that best-of-breed providers dominate the category.

Between evolving consumers and consumer channels, convergence between retail and consumer product supply chains, and technology advances in warehouse management systems (WMS) a lot of change has come to warehouse management in a relatively short amount of time. How have vendors responded to these trends? Best-of-breeds still dominate the category, with Manhattan Associates at the top of the list, and several vendors ? RedPrairie, SSA Global, Sterling Commerce, and HighJump Software ? are hard on its heels. ERP vendors SAP, Oracle, and Aldata Solution continue to duke it out among themselves while trying to close the gap with pure plays. Companies evaluating WMS solutions for consumer goods supply chains need to strike a balance between manufacturing-driven needs, consumer-driven needs, and distribution’s role in an extended supply chain when making their selection. To help companies pick the best partner, this report includes an interactive comparison tool that provides detailed vendor evaluations across 191 criteria and customizable rankings.

The report includes comparative tools and customisable rankings. Evaluations were based on the quality of current offerings and the general business, service and corporate strategy driving the company. Manhattan Associates had the highest cumulative rank when these two criteria were weighed together.

The report cites the strategic acquisition of Evant and the resulting addition of Advanced Planning, Demand Forecasting and Replenishment solutions as another key element to Manhattan Associates’ high ranking, explaining that “Manhattan Associates is clearly at home in the consumer goods supply chain, with specific functionality targeted to retail distribution processes and a strategic commitment to retail through its acquisition last year of Evant.”

Forrester conducted evaluations in October, 2005 and February 2006 and interviewed nine vendors and more than 30 user companies, including Aldata Solution, Catalyst International, HighJump Software, Manhattan Associates, Oracle Retail, RedPrairie, SAP for Retail, SSA Global, and Sterling Commerce.
