Manufacturers adopt RFID quicker than retailers

published: cw 22, 2006 in Supply Chain Technology & RFID

Apparently, manufacturers are adopting RFID technology at a much faster clip than retailers.

According to a recent study conducted by Retail Systems Alert Group for NCR Corp., only 9 percent of retailers have an RFID-implementation timetable, even though most retailers included in the study were billion-dollar organizations.
As for manufacturers, 44 percent have developed a timeline for adopting RFID, and those retailers with a timetable are planning to spend more in 2006 than they did in 2005. Among the retailers and manufacturers with a timetable for RFID adoption, most reported they already have pilot distribution centers up and running.

The 3rd Annual Benchmark Study, ?RFID: How Far, How Fast?? concluded that the outlook looks cautiously optimistic for RFID adoption. The awareness of RFID technology among C-level executives, director and managers has significantly improved. In addition, many respondents are aware of the benefits their companies can expect within the first five years of implementation.
