Frans Maas integration costs hit DSV’s profits

DSV, the Danish logistics company formerly known as DFDS, has announced annual pre-tax profit figures just 3% above last years at DKK1.01bn (€13.7m). EBIT was up 15% to DKK1.22bn on an increase in sales of 39% to DKK 32bn.

FedEx results: Lower US growth only part of the picture

Deutsche Post World Net with solid 2006 annual results

Deutsche Post World Net has published detailed figures for 2006, having only announced a short summary of its results last month. The headline numbers were satisfactory, with Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) up 2.9% at €3.87bn and revenue growing 35% to €60.5bn after acquisitions.

EGL Received Proposal From Apollo but continues with Crane Affiliate

EGL announced that the Special Committee of its Board of Directors has received a written proposal, dated March 19, 2007 from Apollo Management L.P. expressing its interest in the acquisition of EGL, Inc. for $40.00 per share, subject to certain conditions, including expedited confirmatory due diligence. The Special Committee determined that, under EGL’s Merger Agreement with an affiliate of James R. Crane, Apollo’s proposal is an alternative proposal. Accordingly, the Special Committee has also informed the Crane Affiliate of the existence of the proposal, and has made arrangements so that Apollo may conduct its due diligence investigation with respect to its proposal. The Special Committee cautions that there can be no assurance that Apollo or another third party will make a firm offer, or that the terms of any such offer received will be a superior proposal or will be consummated.

DHL most nominated company for the Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards

In this years edition of the the Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards DHL is again the most nominated company. Last year DHL was nominated for seven awards and took six awards back home. This year DHL is again nominated for seven awards. The AFSCA awards are designed to honour the respective winning organizations for demonstrating leadership as well as consistency in service quality, innovation, customer relationship management and reliability.

SAP’s primetime WMS

The most recent release of SAP’s supply chain management (SCM) module has many logistics and distribution managers confused. Few SAP customers understand what SAP’s warehouse management system (WM) options are and what the future development strategy is. To clarify, SAP’s traditional WM product comes as a part of the Logistics Execution System (LES) within its well-known ERP system. It does not require any additional modules to operate, and SAP says this WM product will live on with all future versions of ERP.

NYK to consolidate Japanese logistics operations

Japanese shipping and logistics group NYK has announced it will consolidate its two Japan logistics subsidiaries, JIT Corporation and NYK Logistics Japan Co. Ltd., under the sole name of NYK Logistics Japan Co. Ltd., which will remain headquartered in Tokyo.

Further strong growth leads to record figures for the business year 2006

Panalpina has become the second freight forwarder to announce record results. The Swiss based company declared a 43% increase in EBITDA at CHF313m (US$257m/€194m) on a net revenue of CHF7735m (US$6352m/€4799m), up 11%.

SAP’s New Application to Help Companies Comply with European eCustoms Procedures

SAP AG introduced new software in its portfolio of SAP solutions for governance, risk and compliance (GRC) to help companies comply with electronic customs procedures in Europe. The new software facilitates electronic communication with modernized customs systems being implemented in all European Union member states, as mandated under the European Commission’s eCustoms Initiative.

CEO succeeds in second attempt to take over EGL

Houston-based supply chain management company EGL Inc (Eagle Global Logistics) has signed a definitive merger agreement under which James R. Crane, EGL’s largest shareholder, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board, together with investment funds affiliated with Centerbridge Partners, L.P. and The Woodbridge Company Limited (”Investor Group”) will acquire the Company in a transaction valued at approximately $1.7 billion.
