Will Damco Sea & Air play a leading role in Maersk Logistics growth ambitions?

With the take-over of P&O Nedlloyd, Maersk did also acquire P&O Nedlloyd Logistics and Damco Sea & Air. Although P&O Nedlloyd Logistics is already integrated into the Maersk Logistics organization, the Damco organization is not integrated yet.

Integration of Schenker and Bax proceeds in Asia Pacific

Further news on the progress of the integration of Schenker and Bax Global has been released. The two logistics and forwarding operations are subsidiaries of German-based DB Logistics which in turn is part of the German state owned national rail operator. Following the acquisition of Bax Global by Deutsche Bahn in 2005, there have been moves to bring the two companies together under the Schenker brand.

K+N reports exceptional results

The globally operating Kuehne + Nagel Group looks back on a highly successful business year. Organic growth and the successful integration of the ACR Group, acquired effective January 1, 2006, increased turnover by 29.5 per cent to CHF 18,194 million. The operational result (EBITDA) improved by 52.3 per cent to CHF 855 million. After amortisation of intangible assets of CHF 104 million, net earnings grew by 45.5 per cent to a record CHF 458 million. It represents the fourth year in a row that K+N has had substantial increase in profits and turnover.

Hong Kong sees air cargo volumes rise

Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) has released its tonnage figures for February 2007. A total of 168,303 tonnes were handled in February, an increase of 6.1% compared with the same month last year. Cumulative tonnage for the first two months of the year was 360,531 tonnes, up 3.0% against the same period last year.

Rotterdam: Europe’s King of Cargo

The Port of Rotterdam has an interesting relationship with the sea that provides its livelihood. Rotterdam has probably not seen a day without ongoing construction or expansion efforts since at least 900. Over 1,100 years of development port operators have built dams and dikes to hold back floodwaters while reclaiming land from the sea to provide for its expansion.

IATA: Air Cargo faces challenges in security, environment and profitability

Giovanni Bisignani, Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) opened the World Cargo Symposium by laying down three challenges for the industry and governments: (1) to implement e-freight by 2010, (2) to harmonise risk-based security measures globally and (3) to take a balanced and realistic approach to the issue of the environment.

Maersk receives new giant containership

Odense Steel Shipyard has presented its latest newbuilding, an 11,000 TEU container vessel, for the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group. EVELYN MÆRSK, like its three predecessors, will be part of the series of the world’s largest container vessels.

Freight transport gets its own controversial railway line in Holland

Freight trains are an excellent solution for transport over long distances. However, recent years have seen more pressure on the railways, with passenger trains taking precedence over freight trains. The Betuweroute in the Netherlands will change all that, but not everybody is conviced that the expensive showcase will be a good solution.
