ATLS seeks investors for a breakthrough in existing TMS solutions
published: cw 23, 2007 in AdvertorialsATLS, a German company is developing a very innovative solution in a modular architecture for the Transportation Logistics (Software, and Telematics). The solution integrates several innovations, like a patented Theft system, automatic object registration and a freight watch system. IBM Global Services has the technical leadership in the current end-development stage as well as a partner in strategic Marketing & Sales-Alliance. Booz Allen Hamilton will be a strategic partner for worldwide positioning. Several Millions Euro is already invested, in the current 2nd (final) financing stage the company is now looking for investors to realize the launch in 2008.
The core module is a Transport Management System, a trend-setting Supply Chain Management solution. This TMS module is, besides a regular Supply Chain Management functionality from shipper to consignee, workflow-embedded. Workflow-embedded means in this case without any time lag and without any media disruptions, as well as the integration of all the core-, additional- and peripheral services within the complete ATLS-Community. The ATLS community consist of carriers, transport cooperation, all inquiries for leases of mobile transportation units, shipping-lines, packaging companies, depots, insurances, tire shops, etc. The workflow embedded approach operates without any manual web based calls, and therefore gives the possibility dispatch of services in the most efficient way at the right time.
The TMS also consist of Tracking & Tracing services and Freight Scanning. The system can cope with both barcode and RFID-labels (automatic scanning). Furthermore it is possible to generate freight- and customs- documents with the Document Management System. The module Network Translation Service (NTS) connects the system with specialized message translators in different time-zones as an Overnight-Service.
There are several innovative solutions in the new ATLS system. To be mentioned are:
Universal Telematic Platform (UTP)
The Universal Telematic Platform is an embedded computer with touch screen in the truck driver’s cab. This platform is an extension of the QUALCOMM’S fleet management solutions in on-board-services. With this innovation it is possible to get and use additional interactive information, like ferry departs inclusive the possibility for booking, pick-up of additional loads, printing documents, routes and truck-stops information, a mobile office for the O/O’s (Owner Operators).
Freight Watch System (FWS )
A freight watch system for security of sensitive freight and transport-units (ATLS-Loss- / Theft-prevention) in combination with sensoric, GPS, RFID and Zig-Bee-Technology (IBM). This technology is patented by ATLS and is developed in co-operation with Kuehne + Nagel, Brink’’s Security Germany, the DVR (the official German transport security council), and last but not least aligned with transport insurance companies. If Pre-planned routes are used, unexpected truck stops are immediately reported to pre-defined security companies. Thus, ATLS will not only provide the driving trucks with Theft-Prevention, but also locations at rest areas and vehicle parks via implanted sensors at these areas.
Automatic Object Registration (AOR)
Tracking & Tracing of freight mobile units, on an object-level. ATLs uses for this two different applications:
- as stationary solution for RFID-registrations and identifications at gate-readers at any neuralogic point of transportation. The neurologic points can be at entry- and exit-points of seaports, at traffic-centers, at borders, and so on. ATLS wants to achieve with this technology a split-second on the spot registration and identification of the mobile unit to be registered and identified, resulting in a faster throughput of goods. It is possible to display special messages e.g. hazardous goods.
- as mobile solution for RFID-registration during transport. The connecting or disconnecting of the freight container to the truck will be reported in real-time with GPS-position and messages out of special security checks to a security-seal (”destroyed / not destroyed”) to any defined addresses within the supply chain.
Besides the TMS in the ATLS-Solution, there will be other modules like:
- load boards in different techniques and applications ;
- active Sales Promotion via Push- and Pull-Systems (1-to-1-marketing without any scattering losses between offers and demands);
- management information;
- special ATLS-Community-applications (also a market for Truck-drivers);
- a trend-setting communication-system with significant cost-reductions in communications areas and many daily operational benefits.
In the first release ATLS AG’s is primarily focussing on managing the flows from ‘OTR’ (over the road) transportation companies. An extension covering all modes of transport (Air, Sea and Rail) is already planned.
ATLS AG Regensburg, Germany, realizes for the world-wide Logistics market Software and Telematic- Solutions, as modules integrated in IT-Architecture. The system will be an innovative world-wide accessible platform - where beside the ATLS-suite - other third party solutions can be connected. The TMS solution will be offered for small and mid sized companies (SMB’s), here as a standard platform-solution for the retail and mass market. The ATLS-forecast in this area is to win approximately 25.000 customers in Europe within the next 4 years. ATLS will offer solutions for big-sized Logistics-companies as well. In this so-called project businesses, the core system will be adapted to the specific needs of the big-sized companies. e.g. with development of interfaces to inhouse-solutions. The already existing ‘ATLS-Interest-Group’ includes world-wide logistics companies.
The unique and innovative software needs a short technical finish-up, before it can be introduced in the market. The market introduction is planned for 2008. In the current stage, IBM Global Services has taken the technical leadership. IBM will also operate as a partner in strategic Marketing & Sales. Booz Allen Hamilton will be a strategic partner for worldwide product positioning.
At this moment ATLS is in the 2nd and final financing stage. A special Fund will be opened, beginning 06-15-2007, closing 08-31-2007, in administration of a Law Office. On basis of the current assessment of the company’s value, valued by an M & A-Company in Zurich, Switzerland, of $40 Millions 50% of the shares will be transferred to the Fund, due to the value of $20 millions for Share- / Company’s participations. The use of the fund: Final programming with IBM, Field-tests will be in the 3rd quarter 2008, market entry 3rd and 4th quarter 2008. Substantial and significant increases in the value can be assumed in the strategic alliance with IBM (beside the technical leadership by IBM, as far as also in Marketing & Sales Alliance), Booz Allen Hamilton and - last but not least - through the planned IPO in approx. 3 years.
