Maersk Line announces changes to improve North America network services

published: cw 05, 2007 in Logistics & Shipping

In an effort to redefine its North American service model and streamline ocean and inland routes, ocean carrier Maersk Line announced today it has made changes to more efficiently move greater volumes on fewer shipping services.

Maersk vice president of area line management in North America, Vincent Clerc, said these changes will provide shippers with more cost-effective service that is faster and more reliable.

One of the new changes includes phasing out Maersk’s weekly, 2,500 Twenty-foot equivalent (TEU) capacity Transpacific 2 service (TP2) to the ports of Yantian-Shanghai-Busan-Tacoma-Vancouver-Dutch Harbor and Yokohama at the end of February

By integrating these ports into other reconfigured Transpacific services—TP 9, TP 6 and TP 5—Maersk said it will meet customer demand, allow key port coverage, ensure optimal sailing frequency, and enhance scheduling reliability. The ocean carrier added that this realignment increases the density of cargo on the more efficient replacement routes and reduces the complexity of the network and services provided. And its larger vessels will replace some of the smaller ships that had been deployed on the routes.

The new TP 9, TP 6, and TP 5 services include the following:

TP 9: this service will call Singapore, Laem Chabang, Shekou, Yantian, Xiamen, Kaohsiung, Los Angeles, and Vancouver eastbound. And it will call Los Angeles, Vancouver, Yokohama, Xingang, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Hong Kong, Yantian, and Tanjung Pelepas westbound.

TP 6: this service will call Tanjung Pelepas, Yantian, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and Tacoma eastbound. A nd it will call Los Angeles, Tacoma, Yokohama, Shimizu, Nagoya, Shanghai, Ningbo, Hong Kong, Yantian, and Tanjung Pelepas westbound.

TP 5: this service will call Shanghai, Ningbo, Los Angeles, Oakland, and Dutch Harbor eastbound. And it will call Los Angeles, Oakland, Dutch Harbor, Yokohama, Nagoya, Kobe, Busan, Shanghai, and Ningbo westbound.
