Samskip acquires Saltire Integrated Shipping Limited
published: cw 07, 2007 in Mergers & acquisitionsSamskip Limited has acquired Glasgow-based Saltire Integrated Shipping Limited. Sandy Valentine and Peter Work. the two shareholders of Saltire, a freight forwarding and NVOCC operator formed in 2004, have sold their business to Samskip Limited for an undisclosed amount.
Peter Work explained the background to the deal:
“Saltire has experienced rapid growth since Sandy Valentine and myself started the business in 2004. All aspects of our freight forwarding and NVOCC business have developed beyond our expectations.
“In order to continue the growth, necessary diversification and investment, we needed a partner who could support us in all aspects of the business and, of course, our development plans. In Samskip we have found an equally ambitious company with a desire to grow a logistics forwarding business not just in Scotland but throughout its international network.
“Sandy and I will continue to run Saltire from Glasgow with the existing team, reporting to Samskip Limited’s UK Managing Director, Simon Dwyer. We are looking forward to meeting our new Samskip colleagues around Europe and exploring the many synergies that undoubtedly exist.”
Samskip is no stranger to the Scottish logistics market having had a commercial presence for its Reefer Logistics and Iceland Line products since 2004 when Ciaron Reynolds was appointed Sales Manager for the region. Also, through the acquisition of multimodal operator Seawheel in 2005, Samskip entered into the European and Scandinavian door to door movement of cargoes utilizing its own vessels calling at Grangemouth.
Simon Dwyer added:
“In just over two years, Samskip has become an established logistics operator in the Scottish market with our Reefer Logistics product and a multimodal network that extends across Europe, Scandinavia and Baltics. It is a natural step for us to complement this development with a Forwarding Logistics product.
“Saltire, its owners and employees, are like-minded with an impressive growth record in such a short time. This acquisition will give our mutual client base access to the complete logistics product portfolio in Scotland and beyond.”
