Looking at the job market, logistics search and headhunt company Logistics Recruitment, sees a large decline in the number of online applicants. First of all this is because less and less candidates actively search the internet. Secondly as the amount of job ads per job board continues to grow you can imagine that an individual job ad gets less and less view or attention. This results in a snowball effect which has resulted in a large decrease in the number of online applications.

This means that the focus of Recruitment Companies/ Executive search companies will even more then before needs to be on well developed industry networks, headhunting/ searches and other innovative ways to attracted the hot candidates in the current market.

Also the Hiring Companies either the logistics service providers or the OEM’s need to ensure that they provide the right focus on the searches for logistics & supply chain professionals. As they need these professionals to keep their growth rates at par with budgets. Below we have listed some key aspects of what we believe will help create a successful search for the Hiring Companies point of view:

Where to focus on

  1. Strong focus on retaining staff through career development, training, market conform salaries, job certainty and a great work environment as this will be communicated through current staff to the outside world
  2. Make your company visible, as a great company to work for via industry magazines, events and seminars to sell the company as a prospective employer
  3. Network via your Senior Managers and HR executives on the key industry online network sites of the moment to create a network which you can use once you need new staff. Try for instance to link on www.linkedin.com or www.openbc.com
  4. Treat the candidates as if they were a potential client, this will also be communicated to the market and strengthen your image as a good prospective employer

How to perform a succesful search

  1. Create a job description that is correct and contains all the necessary information to ensure that there is no room for changes or discussing in a later stage of the search
  2. The searches/selection needs to have full support of the Senior Management and it needs to be a priority not only to create the necessary funds but also to create the times in their dairies to meet interesting candidates on a short notice
  3. Ensure that the qualities you seek and salary you offer match the current market
  4. Preferably work with one recruitment company per search to ensure dedicated searches, more time spend on a search and better interaction between the two parties
  5. Most importantly when you have found that piece of gold make your decisions fast, because if you can see he or she is a piece of gold so will the others in the market

A great deal of companies are already working along these principles and we see that they are much more successful in not only attracting the right staff, keeping the right staff but also the time in which they fill a vacancy is considerably shorter compared to companies that do not follow these guidelines.
