Maersk container activities still not profitable

The container activities of Maersk showed considerable progress in result compared to the first half year 2006 as was expected, however, the total net result was negative by USD 168 million. The number of transported containers in Maersk Line increased by 3%, which was lower than the general market growth as a consequence of the focus on earnings rather than market share.

DHL Lets Shippers Choose From Multiple Software Programs

MOL Logistics, a subsidiary of the Japanese shipping group, has announced that it has established a regional headquarters in The Netherlands. The move will reinforce the development and expansion of the company’s network in Europe and enhance its sales activities in Central and Eastern European countries and Russia, where it anticipates strong economic growth. It will also promote the company’s localisation efforts in Europe.

Rotterdam port rail link to Germany to open

Rail increases share of Rotterdam’s container volumes

In 2006, rail increased its share in container transport to and from the Port of Rotterdam by more than 20%, improving its position with respect to the modal split from 9 to 11%. Road haulage accounted for 59% (2005: 60%) and inland shipping remained unchanged at just over 30%.
